This tool, called "Family Finder", matches linked blocks of DNA across the 22 autosomal chromosomes which everyone has. The test uses DNA from either males or females to determine whether close relationships exists between people - extending to 4th or 5th cousins. This powerful new tool can be used in addition to Y-chromosome surname testing of males and mtDNA testing for maternal relationships to expand the information available to the genetic genealogist. Please join us and see how this new tool could be used to further the research you are doing. Fourteen close male and female relatives of Doug's daughter are participating in the beta testing phase of the Family Finder development to help validate the technique. Doug's talk will describe the Family Finder technique, show the family relationships of his participants and present some of the results that have been obtained to date.
