However, these clues are often readily available in those cemeteries. A journey to the cemeteries where your ancestors were laid to rest could prove to be very rewarding for your research efforts. On the other hand if you have not done your homework the trip may be a big disappointment. If you go, a little prior preparation can make the trip much more successful. Cath Trindle will be presenting a program that will help you be prepared to get the most out of your trip. She will tell you what homework to do before you go, when and where to go, what material and supplies to take with you, and what you can typically expect when get there. Her program also gives you some pointers on possible hidden clues that can be an additional benefit to your research. Cath Madden Trindle is a certified genealogist and national conference speaker. She earned a Certificate of European Research from BYU. She also holds a Certificate on Genealogical Studies – Librarianship (NGIS). She lives in the San Francisco Bay Area, is an active member of the San Mateo County Genealogical Society, and is currently the Treasurer of the Federation of Genealogical Societies. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tri-Valley TMG Users Group The Master Genealogist Software Date: Saturday, November 21, 2009 Time: 9 AM - Noon Location: 7077 Koll Center Parkway, Suite 110, Pleasanton, CA 94566 Map to the meeting site: http://www.l-ags.org/maps/Pls-KollCenter.html Leader: Kay Speaks, tvtmg.chair@L-AGS.org Instructors: Kay Speaks & Sue Johnston Topic: Chapter 14—Adding Custom Tag Types Person information in TMG is entered into the software using Tags. Over 100 standard Tag Types have been designed to accommodate a wide variety of data. There are also several general-purpose Tag Types such as Anecdote and Note that can be used if there is no other suitable for a particular case. However many users find it helpful to create a few custom Tag Types for special types of information or to better control how TMG manages their data. We will create a new Tag Type, add a suitable Role and Sentence, then add a reminder explaining how to use the custom Tag Type. TV-TMG classes use Terry Reigel’s new A Primer for The Master Genealogist book written for Version 7. Read about the book at http://reigelridge.com/press/primer.htm. With the aid of a digital projector, Kay and Sue work as an instructional team. We discuss, demonstrate, and brainstorm best practices of the software using a hands-on method. We learn TMG's features by actually entering samples of the lesson into a TV-TMG class practice database. Each monthly session is like a three-hour TMG workshop. Guests are always welcome at our meetings. Accommodations for laptops are available. If you have a laptop, bring it with you to the meeting. A copy of the group's practice database will be provided to you. A laptop is not a requirement as the lesson will be digitally projected. If you can't stay for the entire 3 hours, come and leave early. TMG questions not specific to all attendees will be addressed in the later part of our meeting. Please bring samples of your problem if possible. We hope to see you at the next meeting! A free demo version of the software can be downloaded at http://www.whollygenes.com. Terry Reigel’s book can be purchased from this website. This is a network of local history centers, historic sites, libraries, museums and genealogical societies whose fields of interest include the eastern part of Alameda County and the southeastern part of Contra Costa County. Sixteen organizations now belong to TVHC, stretching geographically from the Blackhawk Museum in the north to the Niles Essanay Silent Film Museum to the south. The TVHC recently launched a Web site, found by going to the L-AGS home page, then clicking on Internet Genealogy Links, then Local History, then Tri-Valley History Council. A new addition to the site is an index to oral histories recorded by TVHC organizations. So far, the index lists 49 interviews conducted by the Livermore Heritage Guild and the Museum on Main. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NEW PUBLICATION BY LOUISE THROOP Longtime L-AGS member Louise Throop has re-cently published a major work of genealogy: George Soule of the Mayflower and his Descendants in the Fifth and Sixth Generations, compiled by John E. Inside the 1859 St. Raymond's Church, costumed storyteller Randel McGee will dramatically tell the classic tales of Hans Christian Andersen.  The local Danish community will host a "Little Copenhagen" to share stories and mementoes of their Danish ancestors.  There will also be a demonstration of making "aebleskiver" which, legend has it, were invented by Vikings who had tried making pancakes in their dented and banged-up shields but instead created these round delicacies.  Visitors can learn more about the legends of Denmark and traditional crafts inside the 1856 Murray Schoolhouse.  Materials will be provided to make Danish traditional crafts including paper cutting, heart baskets and Danish gnomes.  Visitors may also explore the Dublin Pioneer Cemetery and learn about the Dublin's Danes from unique Danish grave markers. The Heritage Center is located at 6600 Donlon Way in Dublin.  Admission is $5 per person which includes storytelling program, tastings, "make and take" crafts and all activities.  For further information please phone 925-452-2100. ====================================================================== U P C O M I N G S E M I N A R S A N D C O N F E R E N C E S ====================================================================== LAGS SEMINAR PLANNED FOR NOV. 28 Kay Speaks is lining up speakers for a Seminar the Saturday after Thanksgiving.
