Many people focus on websites that offer historical data, however, Ron’s program, "Best Bet Internet Websites”, adds color and texture to one's research. Websites discussed in this presentation fall into a few categories: newspapers, maps and photographs, finding living people, foreign language translation aids, and misc. The presentation will include real-world examples of how these websites can be used to solve extremely difficult genealogical problems. Ron Arons is an accomplished genealogical researcher. He has a B.S. degree in Engineering from Princeton University, plus an MBA from the University of Chicago. The loss of both his parents at an early age motivated him to learn more about his family, and triggered a passion for genealogy research. His research led him to publish a very popular book, and develop improved research techniques. He has done extensive research in England, Poland, Romania, Ukraine, Belarus, and Lithuania, and is very experienced in Jewish genealogy. He travels the country regularly presenting educational programs and helping genealogists develop and improve their research strategies. ======================================================== TRI-VALLEY TMG USERS GROUP The Master Genealogist Software Date: Saturday, September 19, 2009 Time: 9 AM - Noon Location: 7077 Koll Center Parkway, Suite 110, Pleasanton, CA 94566 Map to the meeting site: http://www.l-ags.org/maps/Pls-KollCenter.html [The October TMG meeting will likely be moved to Sunday afternoon, October 18 due to several Bay Area genealogy seminars on Saturday, October 17. A change of date will be discussed at our September meeting.] Leader: Kay Speaks, tvtmg.chair@L-AGS.org Instructors: Kay Speaks & Sue Johnston September Topic: Chapter 12 - Witnesses One of TMG’s more useful features, and one that may be unique among genealogy programs, is the ability to record an unlimited number of people who were associated with an event. Most Tags can have one or two Principals. Those are the one or two people most intimately involved in the event. Any number of other people can be attached to the Tag as Witnesses. For example, the Witness feature allows you to include in a single Tag any of the following: • All the members in a census household. • Family members who immigrated together. • The executors and heirs named in a will. • The minister and attendants at a wedding. • The pallbearers in a funeral. TV-TMG classes use Terry Reigel’s new A Primer for The Master Genealogist book written for Version 7. Read about the book at http://reigelridge.com/press/primer.htm. With the aid of a digital projector, Kay and Sue work as an instructional team. We discuss, demonstrate, and brainstorm best practices of the software using a hands-on method. We learn TMG's features by actually entering samples of the lesson into a TV-TMG class practice database. Each monthly session is like a three-hour TMG workshop. Guests are always welcome at our meetings. Accommodations for laptops are available. If you have a laptop, bring it with you to the meeting. A copy of the group's practice database will be provided to you. A laptop is not a requirement as the lesson will be digitally projected. If you can't stay for the entire 3 hours, come and leave early. TMG questions not specific to all attendees will be addressed in the later part of our meeting. Please bring samples of your problem if possible. We hope to see you at the next meeting! A free demo version of the software can be downloaded at http://www.whollygenes.com. Terry Reigel’s book can be purchased from this website.
