The problem is serious - stated simply, it is No president, no L-AGS We cannot exist as a society without a full board of directors as specified in the bylaws. Please consider the loss of a great society that is a benefit not only to all of our members but to many other genealogy groups. This will happen if the position of president is not filled. The president of our society receives a tremendous amount of support from the members and the board. Please don't let us lose our society. If called to serve, please say "Yes." If you have already decided to be a nominee, please send a message to the nominating committee at mailto:iamadane@comcast.net. Or if you can recommend a worthy candidate for president, please pass the name on to the same address. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The time for renewal of your membership is approaching. She is a first generation Chinese-American on her father's side of the family. Although at the age of twelve she helped her Irish grandmother's family research efforts by typing letters to potential "cousins," she officially started her personal genealogy research seven years ago in an effort to discover the story behind the murder of her Chinese great-uncle's wife. She met George Anderson serving as docent at the Pleasanton Library, was invited to the Study Group the next night, and has been a member of L-AGS ever since. Kay co-chairs the Study Group and chairs the Tri-Valley TMG Users Group for The Master Genealogist software. She is also a member of various national, state and local genealogy and historical societies, the Angel Island Immigration Station Foundation (AIISF), the Chinese Historical Society of America, and is the Information Technology Manager for Pleasanton-based Leisure Sports, Inc. Her Chinese genealogy education exhibit won first place in the educational collection division at the 2006 Alameda County Fair. She currently has her Chinese genealogy on display at the Pleasanton Museum on Main's "The Chinese Experience in the Valley" exhibit running through the end of the year. She also has a more detailed Leong family exhibit at the Carnegie Building in Livermore. The Livermore exhibit runs through November 27, and will be displayed again in Spring 2007. Visitors are welcome. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ STUDY GROUP MEETING Co-Leaders: Kay Speaks and Dick Finn THERE WILL BE NO MEETING IN NOVEMBER OR DECEMBER Comments, questions and answers about any subject in genealogy should be posted to our e-mail forum at: mailto:study.group@L-AGS.org The forum does not close for the holidays! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ TRI-VALLEY TMG USERS GROUP Date: Saturday, November 18, 2006 (We meet every third Saturday of the month.) Time: 9:00 a.m. - Noon Location: 7077 Koll Center Parkway, Suite 110, Pleasanton, CA 94566 Map: http://www.L-AGS.org/maps/Pls-KollCenter.html Leader: Kay Speaks, mailto:tvtmg.chair@L-AGS.org Instructors: Kay Speaks and Sue Johnston Program: To be Announced About our meetings: With the aid of a digital projector, Kay and Sue work as an instructional team. We discuss, demonstrate, and brainstorm best practices of the software. We use a hands-on method, so you learn TMG's features by actually entering samples of the lesson into a class TMG database. Each monthly session is like a mini three-hour TMG workshop. Guests are always welcome at our meetings. Accommodations for laptops are available. If you have a laptop, bring it with you to the meeting and a copy of the group's practice database will be provided to you. A feature of our teaching sessions is the ability to connect up to 15 laptops to the digital projector so attendees can share their ideas and projects. It also allows us to provide custom instruction to the individual user. A laptop is not a requirement as the lesson will be projected. If you can't stay for the entire 3 hours, come and leave early. TMG questions not specific to all attendees will be addressed in the later part of our meeting. Please bring samples of your problem if possible. We hope to see you at the next meeting! A free demo version of the software can be downloaded at http://www.whollygenes.com.
