1. Sandra Caulder has answered my request for a 
volunteer to take Scott Gagnon's job as the 
future Roots Tracer printer and distributor. 
Thank you Sandra.

2. October is Family History month. Please visit 
the marvelous display put together by Kay Speaks 
at the Carnegie Building in Livermore. Kay's 
display is a supplement to her talk to L-AGS in 
November. Don't miss it.
Thank you to the Livermore Heritage Guild who is providing the display case.

3. Please contribute articles of a genealogy 
content to our November issue of the Roots 
Tracer. Your contributions make it the valuable 
publication it is.

4. A nomination committee is needed for officers 
for 2007. Please consider volunteering for this

5. George has put together a new publication for 
L-AGS entitled FAULKNER'S BUSINESS AND RESIDENCE 
DIRECTORY OF MURRAY TOWNSHIP, ALAMEDA COUNTY, 
CALIFORNIA. This is a photographic reprint of an 
1887 book, indexed and reprinted. I have found 
this book to be contain a wealth of information. 
It can be ordered for $10 for members, $15 for 
non-members, with $4 for shipping. Send e-mail

Family History Month is observed again in 
October. The Livermore Heritage Guild has 
offered L-AGS the use a showcase in the Carnegie 
building, and Kay Speaks has agreed to recreate 
her award-winning exhibit on Chinese genealogy 
to be displayed there. Part of Kay's wonderful 
collection of Chinese is also on display at the 
Museum on Main in Pleasanton. Take a look at 
both exhibits.

Beside our usual give and take session we will 
show the new Passage Express for Family Tree 
Maker.

Most of our group are FTM users (from beginners 
to experts) who discuss problems and solutions, 
share successes, answer questions, and in 
general help each other with the Family Tree 
Maker genealogical software. All persons 
interested or potentially interested in Family 
Tree Maker are invited to attend. For 
information on our group please call Dick Finn

about topics to be discussed.

Understanding TMG Functions and Features:

Importing Your Data from Another Genealogy 
Program With Special Attention to Imports from 
Family Tree Maker

This month is our eighth tutorial from Terry 
Reigel's TMG Tips website, 
http://reigelridge.com/tmg .This is a wonderful 
site with lots of tips and tutorials which is 
constantly being updated. Terry has given us 
permission to use any part of his website for 
our sessions.

TMG offers direct import, using GenBridge� 
technology, from many other genealogy software 
programs. Whenever possible use the GenBridge 
software to import data, as opposed to creating 
a GEDCOM from your other software program and 
then importing the GEDCOM into TMG. You have 
more control over the end results using 
GenBridge and will have much less cleanup after 
the import. You also have less data loss during 
the transfer. If you haven't used GenBridge, 
then be sure to attend this meeting. TMG has a 
wizard to help you through the import process. 
Spending time analyzing your data and 
experimenting with the different settings can 
save your hours of subsequent cleanup. We will 
also go through suggestions for clean up 
methodology and how to track which.

About our meetings: With the aid of a digital 
projector, Kay and Sue work as an instructional 
team. We discuss, demonstrate, and brainstorm 
best practices of the software. We use a 
hands-on method, so you learn TMG's features by 
actually entering samples of the lesson into a 
class TMG database. Each monthly session is like 
a mini three-hour TMG workshop.

Guests are always welcome at our meetings. 
Accommodations for laptops are available. If you 
have a laptop, bring it with you to the meeting 
and a copy of the group's practice database will 
be provided to you. A feature of our teaching 
sessions is the ability to connect up to 15 
laptops to the digital projector so attendees 
can share their ideas and projects. It also 
allows us to provide custom instruction to the 
individual user. A laptop is not a requirement 
as the lesson will be projected. If you can't 
stay for the entire 3 hours, come and leave 
early. TMG questions not specific to all 
attendees will be addressed in the later part of 
our meeting. Please bring samples of your 
problem if possible. We hope to see you at the 
next meeting!

Topic: Using Blogs and Yahoo! Answers for Genealogy Research

So you've heard of Blogs, but you don't 
understand what they are or how to use them. 
We'll explore how Blogs can help you with your 
genealogy research. I'll also share with you how 
I obtained help locating my Chinese ancestral 
village through Yahoo! Answers.

Blog is short for "web log." Blogs are a series 
of short, frequently updated posts arranged 
chronologically, and are related to a specific 
topic. We'll have a wireless Internet connection 
available if you wish to bring your laptop to 
this meeting.

Have a genealogy brickwall? Bring it to the 
meeting so we can all brainstorm and help.

Don't forget to use our L-AGS Study Group forum 
for any genealogy topic discussion or computer 
interest question. L-AGS is blessed with people 
willing to share their knowledge! E-mail the
