LDS FAMILY HISTORY CENTERS

Jim Scofield has given the following information:

The LDS Family History Department in Salt Lake City has
announced that it is raising the film rental fee from
$3.25 to $5.50. For local users this amounts to $6.00
including California Sales tax. The higher price will
be charged at the Livermore Stake Family History Center
on Mocho Street for films ordered after January 8,
2006. For an initial $6.00, films remain at the Family
History Center for at least thirty days. For an
additional $6.00 the total rental period extends to
ninety days. For a third $6.00, films remain at the
Family History Center while "in use" by the patron.
Whether a film is remaining "in use" is subject to the
interpretation of the director.  The cost of microfiche
remains at fifteen cents per sheet and these remain at
the FHC.

Diane Pergrossi, Director of the Pleasanton FHC,
announces that her center will start charging the
higher fees immediately.

The New Year has started, so that means that membership
fees are now overdue - Individual $18.00. Family
$25.00. You may become a Patron of L-AGS for $40 and a
Benefactor for $100. Please send your check made out to

We will continue discussing special features of the new
FTM Version 2006. If you have features that you would
like to hear about in an in-depth presentation, please
let me know.

Bring your questions (any and all skill levels) and
let us help each other find answers.

Most of our group are FTM users (from beginners to
experts) who discuss problems and solutions, share
successes, answer questions, and in general help each
other with the Family Tree Maker genealogical software.
All persons interested or potentially interested in
Family Tree Maker are invited to attend. For
information on our group please call Dick Finn at 925-
XXX-XXXX or e-mail him at XXXX@wecare.net. Contact
Dick for information about topics to be discussed.

laptop with FTM loaded (any version) and/or the FTM

Topic:

      "My grandma's pitcher and other sentimental
           treasures I could sell on eBay."

Presenter:

      Barry Schrader
      Newspaper editor, columnist, public affairs
           manager and historian

Barry visits homes and apartments of senior citizens
who have wonderful family treasures but finds there is
no written record of them, only the recollections of
their present owners, some items handed down two or
more generations. He talks about how important it is to
record those heirlooms on tape or in writing so after
we are gone our kids and grandchildren will cherish
those memories and stories. Or maybe the items should
go to the local historical society for safekeeping and
future display. And as a last resort you can always
sell them on eBay!

Barry kindly supplied this biography in the third
person:

"Barry Schrader has been involved in Livermore media,
community affairs and history since 1967.

"Barry served as editor of the Tri-Valley Herald from
1967-1969, then left California for an editor's job
back in his home state of Illinois. After suffering
through four Midwestern winters he returned to
California to serve as editor of the Valley Times
during 1972-73, and next became editor of the Herald
again from late 1973-1980. After that he was manager of
public affairs at Sandia for 21 years. Then in 2001 he
retired from there and became community relations
manager at Lawrence Lab. Last year he changed jobs and
is now Oral Historian for LLNL.

"His interest in history was first kindled during high
school when he was hired to scour the back issues of
his hometown weekly and prepare a column of news from
25 and 50 years ago. Then in 1963 he was asked to write
the chapter on local newspapers' history in the DeKalb
County Illinois history book. Many years later, in 1991
he wrote a book on Livermore historical trivia entitled
'Will the Last Person Leaving Livermore Please Unscrew
the Bulb in Fire Station One.' He also researched and
published his own family's genealogy in a 100 page book
in the early Nineties.

"Throughout his life, Barry has been active in
politics, civic and historical groups. He is past
president of the Livermore Rotary Club, the Friends of
the Vineyards, and Livermore Heritage Guild. He was
also elected to three terms on the Chabot-Las Positas
College District Board of Trustees from 1989 to 2001.

"His most recent writing project is a weekly history
column in all three valley papers, which he has been
doing for 13 months now."
