The speaker for December will be Bob Dougherty of San Ramon, discussing "Tips on preparing for a genealogy research trip." =========================================================== Obituary for our former L-AGS president, Jon Bryan, reprinted from the Livermore Tri-Valley Herald, October 2, 2005: ------- Jon B. Bryan, 64 ... Worked at the Livermore lab LIVERMORE - Jon B. Bryan, a 37-year resident of Livermore, died Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2005, after a battle with cancer. He was 64. Mr. Bryan was born Nov. 9, 1940, in Scott City, Kan. He graduated from Kansas State University in 1968 with a doctorate in physics. He worked at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and retired in 1993 after 30 years of service. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Gail (Voelker) Bryan; his brothers, Joel Bryan of Scott City, Kan., and Tom Bryan of Ireland; his father, J. Arthur Bryan of Scott City, Kan., and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Burial will be at Scott City Cemetery in Kansas at a later date. Donations may be made to the Livermore Amador Genealogical Society, P.O. Box 901, Livermore 94551, or to Kaiser Hospice, 200 Muir Road, Martinez 94553. Research facilities, public and private, provide access to resources documenting the growth and development of the state and its people from its beginning to the present. "Chuck Knuthson has been studying and conducting genealogical research for thirty years. For the past eleven years he has instructed beginning genealogy classes at two Sacramento-area community colleges. Chuck lectures locally, regionally, and nationally, including the Utah Genealogical Association, the Federation of Genealogical Societies, the National Genealogical Society, the California State Archives, the California Genealogical Society, eGenConference, the first-ever Internet-based international virtual genealogy conference, the Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy, and the Southern Kentucky Genealogical Society. He is the volunteer coordinator for the Sierra County GenWeb website of the California GenWeb Project, webmaster for the California State Genealogical Alliance, and a volunteer librarian at the Sacramento LDS Family History Center. "A fourth generation Californian, Chuck is a retired police captain, having served for thirty-two years with the Roseville California Police Department. Chuck has a B.A. degree in Criminal Justice from California State University, Sacramento, and a Master of Public Administration degree from Golden Gate University, San Francisco. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and the California Law Enforcement Command College. Chuck has completed seminars at Brigham Young University, the Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy, the National Institute on Genealogical Research, and the Institute of Genealogy and Historical Research. He has attended numerous local, state, and national seminars, institutes, and conferences. Chuck serves as Treasurer for the Federation of Genealogical Societies, and is President of the 1,300-member Sacramento German Genealogy Society, and is a member of numerous other genealogical and professional organizations. He is working toward certification as a professional genealogist."
