(library closes) Location: Oakland Multi-Regional Family History Center Library, 4766 Lincoln Avenue, Oakland, CA, Tel. 510-531-3905. Take I-580 into Oakland and take the Highway 13 off ramp. Look for the LDS Temple on your left at the intersection of Lincoln Avenue as you travel north on Highway 13. The library is on the lower level of the Oakland LDS Visitors Center on the west side of the parking lot. Map to meeting site: http://www.L-AGS.org/LDS_Oakland.jpg Study Group Co_Leaders: Kay Speaks, Dick Finn, George Anderson We're off (at last!) to visit the Oakland Multi-Regional Family History Center. Kenneth Miller gave an excellent presentation about the Oakland Family History Center Library at the L-AGS general meeting in April. See http://www.L-AGS.org/Oakland_Regional_FHC.htm. We've made arrangements to have our August Study Group meeting there and to have a special L-AGS orientation by Marge Bell, the new Oakland FHC Director, at 3:30 PM. Don Baker, who specializes in Irish and New England research, will be available in the evening. Come early and stay as long as you wish to browse or research - the library opens at 10 AM on Thursdays and closes at 9 PM. There are other staff members available to answer your questions and show you around the library if you can't make the formal orientation at 3:30 PM. The library is fully staffed by knowledgeable volunteers, so be sure to let them know how much we appreciate their efforts. If you plan to seek help from the genealogy consultants we will be meeting, remember that they like to be able to receive your information in a concise form, like pedigree charts, family group sheets, or descendants charts, rather than in a verbal dialog. Due to liability reasons, L-AGS can't formally organize transportation to and from the library. But we're a friendly group and if you would like to attend and need help in organizing the journey, just send a message to mailto:study.group@L-AGS.org. We'll make every effort to accommodate you. We've set the orientation mid-afternoon for those of your who normally can't attend our night-time meetings. Family, friends, and guests are welcome. This ought to be a very productive meeting. We hope to see you there! ======================================================================= TRI-VALLEY TMG USERS GROUP Kay Speaks, Leader Meeting Date: August 20, 2005 (third Saturday of the month) Meeting Time: 9:00 AM - Noon Meeting Location: 7077 Koll Center Parkway, Suite 110, Conference Room, Pleasanton Presenters: Kay Speaks & Sue Johnston We'll continue with Chapter 10 of Leo Hoffman's Getting the Most Out of the Master Genealogist - Customizing Reports. The Master GenealogistTM (TMG) is well known for its powerful reporting capabilities. TMG offers a wide range of reports in various formats - charts, forms, narratives, lists, publication tools, and statistical. Coupled with powerful filtering and sorting capabilities and the ability to define and assign an unlimited number of Flags, TMG has great flexibility to output the data held within its projects. This is where its true database structure shows its worth. This month we'll cover all forms of reports, except charts which will be covered in a different session. We'll cover the Report Definition Process which explains how your data is transformed into useful information that can be displayed on your screen, output to a printer, or saved to one of several industry standard file types including native format of some popular word processing programs. We'll cover the standard TMG report types. A digital projector and digital viewing equipment will be available for our monthly hands-on 3-hour TMG workshop. If you own a laptop, please bring it to the meeting. If you don't own a laptop, you'll be able to observe the displayed session.
