At the ceremony in his honor, the mayor was late in arriving, so the good Father spoke first. He said, "When I arrived here, the first confession I heard was most unusual. It was from a genealogist who wanted to be absolved from the sin of publishing a book full of flattering lies about her shady ancestors." The priest went on to describe the various criminals, prostitutes and bigamists who were portrayed in the book as saints. When the mayor arrived, she began her speech, "It is a personal privilege to honor Father O'Malley, because when he came here, I was the very first person to give him confession." ========================================================================
