Much of our recent time and attention has been devoted to our Genealogy Booth at Alameda County Fair 2004 (June 25 through July 11). This year we have tried to give more visitors a customized printout with either their own name or their ancestor's name on it to add to their personal family history folder. This month we decided to send out a partial e-Bulletin and follow it up with a complete e-Bulletin. When the complete edition arrives, you may choose to discard the partial e-Bulletin. ====================================================== Earlier we heard about the passing of L-AGS member Harry West. But we have been a bit puzzled because no obituary was yet spotted in the newspapers. Now we have a preliminary explanation. It is tentatively reported that a memorial service is planned for August 14, at St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church on Enos Way in Livermore. The service apparently has been delayed because a family member is expecting the birth of a child. We hope to have confirmed details for you in future e-Bulletins. ====================================================== Please check meeting location places this summer on our L-AGS website. We expect this summer to be even a little more confusing than past summers. Congregation Beth Emek, where we hold our general meetings, is moving from Livermore to Pleasanton. Currently we are in transition. We plan to follow Congregation Beth Emek to Pleasanton for our August meeting. For our July regular meeting, we plan to meet at the new Livermore Public Library (also called the Civic Center Library) at 1188 South Livermore Avenue in Livermore (about a block southeast of the old library). The library telephone number remains (925) 373-5500. Since the old Sonoma School is closed again for the summer, we have our usual confusion. FTM will take a vacation until September this summer. CIG plans to meet at the LDS Church on 950 Mocho Street in Livermore as in past summers. Note that our meeting room may change according to various requirements at the local LDS Church. ====================================================== Family Tree Maker Focus Group Dick Finn, Acting Leader: ftm.group@L-AGS.org, or XXX-XXXX The Family Tree Maker Focus Group will not be meeting during the summer months (June, July and August). We hope to see you at the other L-AGS meetings. ====================================================== July General Meeting Date: Tuesday, July 13, 2004 Time: 7:30 p.m. Special Meeting Location: We plan to meet at the new Livermore Public Library (also called the Civic Center Library) at 1188 South Livermore Avenue in Livermore (about a block southeast of the old library). If you arrive early (about 7:00 p. m.), Gail Bryan is planning to lead some mini-tours of the new facility before Marge's presentation. Note that the library will close at 9:00 p. m., so please don't plan to take a mini-tour after the presentation. If you miss a mini-tour, on your next visit to the new library please ask one of the librarians if someone would please give you a tour of the new library facility . Subject: Writing Your Life Story Speaker: Marge Jergentz-Stout Marge Jergentz-Stout taught "Writing Your Live Story" classes in the valley from Livermore, Pleasanton, up to Danville and over the hill into Castro Valley and Hayward for 7 years. She is presently a Recreation Therapist at the VA hospital. It's fun to trace your roots and chart them. Don't you wish you knew more about them? If they had only written it all down. You are a part of history too! Make yourself immortal; write your story for your great grandchildren. It's difficult to do without a structured commitment, such as a class, but Marge will get you started and give you tips and ideas to keep you writing. Future presentation: 8/10/2004 Cath Madden Trindle, CGRS "Once Upon a Time" - Genealogical Storytelling ====================================================== L-AGS Study Group Kay Speaks, Leader Thursday, July 15, 2004 Location: LDS Church, 950 Mocho Street in Livermore Sharing - Better Practices for Genealogy Internet Searching Do you have a great tip to share with others that has proven successful in your personal Internet research? Do you have favorite web sites to share? How about methods for filtering you search results? What is your favorite search engine? Know how to take advantage of your search engine options? We'll have access to the Internet so that you can demonstrate and share your ideas and tips. A wireless and a cable connection will be available if you wish to bring your own laptop to connect and bookmark websites. You will need to have the ability to connect to a DSL line. For example, if you use a cable provider (Comcast) and don't have an ISP such as SBC, AOL, MSN, EarthLink, etc., you will not be able to connect. What is the L-AGS Study Group? We are an informal group of family historians and researchers who are willing to share our knowledge and successful methods of family research. If you are new to family genealogy research or are a seasoned researcher, there is always something new to learn or share with others who attend our monthly meetings. Visitors are always welcome. We meet on the third Thursday of every month at the LDS Church, 950 Mocho, Livermore, 7:30 p.m. I do hope you'll make our meetings a part of your permanent calendar! ====================================================== Details about the Harry West service, The Master Genealogist (TMG) program and the Computer Interest Group (CIG) should follow in a complete e-Bulletin for July.
