Walker and Todd Taylor, "The Columbia Guide to Online Style", we will discuss citations from electronically accessed sources. Are you unsure how to cite a source that only includes the login name or aliases? What happens if you only have a file name as opposed to a title? Do you use the date you access online resources rather than the "edition" date? Is it redundant to refer to a page number when a document found on the "world wide web" (WWW) is really only one page, regardless of its length? We will discuss and have samples of electronic citations for: The World Wide Web (WWW) Email, Discussion Lists, and Newsgroups Information Available Using Gopher Protocols Information Available Using File Transfer Protocols (FTP) Information Available Using Telnet Protocols Online Reference Sources Electronic Publications and Online Databases Software Programs The L-AGS Study Group is an informal meeting of family historians and researchers. We represent those who have spent many decades learning methods and techniques to those of who are just beginning their journey through the archives and old documents. Come learn and share the challenges, joys, and yes, frustrations of this wonderful lifelong hobby. One of the many things we have in common is the willingness to share and help others. We hope that you will be able to join us this month. We meet on the third Thursday of every month at the LDS Church, 950 Mocho, Livermore, 7:30 p.m. I do hope you will mark your calendar for future meetings. Visit "http://www.L-AGS.org/mocho.html" for directions to the meeting site. In September we will be meeting again at Sonoma School (September 25). The meeting that month will be a general "how to" session. We are looking for suggestions for topics. So far e-mail has been suggested: how to send attachments when not to send attachments how to shield a distribution list from other people on the list how to manage a distribution list. If you have any questions (no topic will be rejected) please contact Jim at computer.chair@L-AGS.org and let him know what you would like to see covered.
