Dick and Wanda Finn were called to Santa Rosa where the condition of Dick's Mother appears to be "touch and go" (FTM). Kay Speaks has also been called out of town to a large family reunion (Study Group and TMG). Some others who have been substitute leaders will also be out of town! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ FAMILY TREE MAKER FOCUS GROUP Dick Finn, Acting Leader: ftm.group@L-AGS.org, or XXX-XXXX Location: Livermore Adult Education Facility (formerly the Sonoma Avenue School), 543 Sonoma Ave., Livermore For a map to the school, surf to: The Family Tree Maker Focus Group normally meets the first Thursday of the month. Map to the meeting site: http://www.L-AGS.org/mocho.html NOTE SWITCH FROM SONOMA SCHOOL TO LDS CHURCH FOR SUMMER! TOPIC: Using PowerPoint to Help Commemorate Grandfather's 90th Birthday! Speaker: Karin Runge (daughter of L-AGS member Neil Runge) Karin has created a PowerPoint presentation to commemorate her grandfather's 90th birthday. Our interest is in the features of the presentation that we could include in our own PowerPoint presentations, and she has included a lot of features. * Family members read text. Sound of voice is recorded and text is on the screen. * A sound editor was used to fix aberrations in the voice, as when a reader said a series of words separated by commas, but the words were too close to hear clearly. She inserted short pauses between the words. * A ship's manifesto was found on Ellisisland.org, copied and presented. * She shows a school class picture of probably 30 students (faces tiny), then copied her grandfather's picture from the class picture and enlarged it so the viewer can see the big picture showing the context of the person and the enlarged picture so you can see better what he looked like. * She found a picture of the boat he immigrated on in the early 1900's. * There's a story about a World's Fair, so she found the poster of that (Google) to include. *Post cards and letters *Family members remembering the history telling the history with pictures. *Downloaded maps were used to mark key locations. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ We plan to have sign-up sheets at the Regular meeting for persons wanting some additional instruction with the L-AGS website for the genealogy booth at the Fair. We plan to have a few sessions with six or less individuals at the Jon and Gail Bryan household starting on June 12th. If you miss the general meeting, please contact us by telephone (XXX-XXXX) or email XXXX@aol.com if you would like to attend. If we have sufficient interest, we will schedule more of these as time permits on Tuesdays, Thursdays or other days. The number six or less is intended to permit more time of questions and some "hands on" experience both with a PC and a Mac computers. Our address is in Livermore. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Heads Up for July: The Family History Center in Livermore (at 950 Mocho Street) will be closed on July 5 and July 24. ------------------------------------------------------------------------
