Join us as Bob and Pat Lane lead us through the history of the Fair and the families that have been involved in it for generations. The Lanes first attended the Alameda Co. Fair just weeks after they moved to Pleasanton in 1952. By the 1953 Fair, Bob was working at a gate in the Barn area and Pat was holding down a seat at her father’s box at the races – and their involvement in the fair has continued non-stop. Both Bob and Pat have worked at various jobs during ‘Fair Time’ and have received awards from both the Alameda County Fair and the Western Fair Association "in recognition and appreciation of dedicated support to the Alameda County Fair." A 225-page pictorial history book by Bob and Pat is available at the Museum on Main Street in Pleasanton titled "Celebrating Family Fun at the County Fair!" This is an appropriate prelude to L-AGS booth at the Fair this year. Please join us to welcome Bob and Pat Lane and take a trip down memory lane. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- L-AGS STUDY GROUP Kay Speaks, Leader: kspeaks@leisuresportsinc.com Thursday, May 15, 2003 - 7:30 PM Location: LDS Church, 950 Mocho Street, Livermore (Room 8) Map to the meeting site: Topic: Planning A Research Trip to San Francisco Speaker: James Smith As you know, we are very lucky to live in the San Francisco Bay Area with its many rich genealogical research resources. We are the envy of people around the globe. Our May guest speaker is James Smith, a sixth generation Californian and a fourth generation native of the City of San Francisco. Jim is an experienced genealogical and historical researcher with published credit in several books. His work on San Francisco genealogical research began in 1992. He was a significant contributor to NORCAL-L and CASANFRA-L until 2001. Jim currently focuses his energy on his publishing career and continues his lookup work as part of the NorCal Library. Jim’s genealogical web postings include: We hope you plan to attend this exciting presentation. Handouts will be available for those in attendance. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tri-Valley TMG Users Group Kay Speaks, Leader: kspeaks@leisuresportsinc.com Saturday, May 17, 2003 - 9:00 AM to noon Location: 7077 Koll Center Parkway, Suite 110, Conference Room, Pleasanton Map to the meeting site: Topic: Exploring the TMG Tool Bar Our TMG users group is designed for beginning and intermediate users of The Master Genealogist (TMG) software. We meet on the 3rd Saturday of every month. Guests are welcomed. Laptops are accommodated. At our May meeting we will continue with our topic "Exploring the TMG Tool Bar". A free update for any Version 5.0 was released April 28, so we will be updating user’s laptop if assistance is required. A free demo version of the software can be downloaded at www.whollygenes.com. It was announced on April 28 that the long awaited book by Leo Hoffman, " Getting the Most Out of The Master Genealogist" has begun shipment. Leo Hoffman is a notable expert and has just completed this new book about TMG’s Version 5. TMG Version 5 sports a new menu system, new navigational aids, improved language translations, and a number of other enhancements that make this version easier to use than previous versions. By far its greatest innovations, however, are provided by the integration of a powerful drawing tool, Visual Chartform. With this exclusive new feature, TMG produces stunning wall charts and fan charts with unparalleled flexibility. Ancestor and descendant box charts support images and can be printed on individual sheets or on large format printers for eye-popping charts that cover a wall. Fan charts can be printed in any size and can be configured as a small wedge, full circle, or any user-defined angle. To pose a question or ask for additional information please send an e-note to tvtmg.chair@l-ags.org. Hope to see you at this month’s meeting! ------------------------------------------------------------------------- COMPUTER INTEREST GROUP Jim Lathrop, Group Leader: lath1@ivwnet.com Thursday, May 22, 2003 - 7:30 PM Location: Livermore Adult Education (old Sonoma School), 543 Sonoma Ave., Livermore Map to the meeting site: TOPIC: Digital Cameras We will be working with digital cameras this meeting. If you have a digital camera, please bring it to the meeting. Also bring your memory card reader (to display the picture on a TV). We will be experimenting with using the cameras to record a page of text. Hopefully with a variety of cameras we will be able to identify how best to preserve text. This may be a solution to libraries that don’t want you "Xeroxing" their books! If you have a handwritten page of text you would like to experiment with, bring it also. If you don’t have a digital camera, bring your questions – we may not know the answer but we might be able to figure it out. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Boilerplate We realize that not all L-AGS members have e-mail.
