For more than ten years, award-winning Hardscratch Press in Walnut Creek has been devoted to producing just such books. Editor-Publisher Jackie Pels will be our speaker. She will talk about the satisfactions - and the challenges - of turning memories to memoirs. "I admit I've become obsessed with 'real people's history,'" Pels says. "But if it's not captured somehow, it's gone, and then we've all lost something important." Hardscratch Press books on display at the meeting will include my own "The Morning Side of Mount Diablo," as well as memoirs of Alaska and New England. And Goldilocks? That book is coming in June.
