Nominations for any office may be made from the floor at that meeting, provided the nominee is present and has agreed to his or her candidacy. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- New Library Catalog We have a new catalog of the books in the Pleasanton Genealogy Library. There are two versions: The "Catalog" (31 pages) lists just the Call Number, Title and Author while the "Database" (106 pages) lists in addition eight other fields of information, such as subjects covered, physical description, publisher, etc. Both versions have a subject index and an author index. The information in these catalogs is also available online at the Pleasanton Library Web site: http://www.ci.pleasanton.ca.us/library.html However, our hard copy publications distill in a handy form all of the information about the books in the genealogy collection. Materials in the Pleasanton Genealogy Library have been contributed by the City, the Friends of the Pleasanton Library and by L-AGS. There are now 854 titles, or sets of books, comprising 1015 separate volumes. The suggested donations for the new books are: Members: Catalog: $2.00 Database: $6.50 Non-members: Catalog: $3.00 Database: $8.50 Charges for packaging and mailing, if needed, will be added to these prices. The books can be ordered from our Publications Chairperson, Donna Fleckner. When Donna is able to attend L-AGS meetings, she will bring copies with her. Otherwise, you can arrange to obtain a copy from her by calling 925 XXX-XXXX or by e-mailing her at XXXX@compuserve.com. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Get Your Renewal In! Every year the Membership Chairperson has a tough time with late (i.e., after January 1) renewals. Your rejoining will not be refused if your dues are somewhat late, but please be considerate and send in your check before the end of the year. If you plan to make a donation to L-AGS, do so well before January 1 to make sure the transaction is credited to this calendar year. An easy way to make a donation is to become a Benefactor for $40.00 or a Patron for $100.00. Dues are $18.00 for an individual and $25.00 for a family. Non-members of L-AGS joining in November and December this year become members through December 2002. How to join is explained at: http://www.l-ags.org/join.html. Their ancestors had come to America on the Mayflower. They had included Senators and Wall Street wizards. They decided to compile a family history, a legacy for their children and grandchildren. They hired a fine author. Only one problem arose -- how to handle that great-uncle George, who was executed in the electric chair. The author said he could handle the story tactfully. The book appeared. It said "Great-uncle George occupied a chair of applied electronics at an important government institution, was attached to his position by the strongest of ties, and his death came as a great shock." =====================================================================
