Carlyle Parker Author of "Going to Salt Lake City to Do Family History Research" Program: Wanting to go to Salt Lake City, But Can't: Tips for Genealogical Research Without Going to the Family History Library This will be a return visit for one of our long-time friends, J. Carlyle Parker. His last visit to L-AGS was over ten years ago. Mr. Parker was a professional university librarian from 1958-1994 at California State University, Stanislaus. He served as the founder and volunteer director of the Modesto and Turlock Family History Centers from 1968-1997. He has written and compiled numerous books, bibliographies, indexes, periodical articles and book reviews concerning genealogical research. "Going to Salt Lake City to Do Family History Research," now in its third edition, is his most popular work. An Internet visit to Barnes and Noble (www.bn.com) and a search for the author "J. Carlyle Parker" will locate eleven books that he authored including the one mentioned above. He has lectured widely, including several national conferences. He has also directed group research trips to the Family History Library and to Washington, D.C. For many years Carlyle and his wife Janet taught a course titled: "Reference Service for Genealogists: A Mini-Course for Librarians" for the Reference and User Services Association (RUSA). - - - - - Visitors are welcome.
