======================================================================== LIVERMORE-AMADOR GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY E-BULLETIN FOR DECEMBER December 1, 2000 ======================================================================== A N N O U N C E M E N T S ------------------------------------------------------------------------- We're Not Florida! We hope we can avoid recounts, lawyers and Supreme Court hearings with a decisive vote for our L-AGS officers at the December meeting. The slate proposed by the nominating committee is: President Jon Bryan 1st VP (Programs) Open 2nd VP (Membership) Kaye Strickland Recording Secretary Jane Southwick Corresponding Secretary Joyce Siason Business Manager Stan Strickland Nominations from the floor will be accepted at the December 12th meeting, provided the nominees are present and have given written permission. If you have a suggestion for a nominee, please pass it on to nominating committee members Mary Dillon and Leo Vongottfried . ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Roselawn Cemetery Burial Records Roselawn Cemetery, formerly known as the Masonic Cemetery, and more formally known as Roselawn Memorial Park, is on North Livermore Avenue in Livermore. L-AGS surveyed the gravestones in Roselawn Cemetery in the 1980s. The results were included in the book, "Four Cemeteries in Livermore, California," 1988, still available from L-AGS. The full text of the book is also posted on our Web site at The burial records, as distinct from the gravestone inscriptions, of Roselawn Cemetery have never before been published. We are pleased to announce that these burial records were uploaded today to our Web site at: The original and digitized burial records are in the possession of: Art Monument Co. Inc. 26295 Mission Blvd. Hayward, CA 94544 Tel. (510) 581-1206 We thank David McLennan and Julie Taylor of the Art Monument Co. for making the digitized records available to us and to the world of genealogists. Several features of burial records make them useful supplements to the gravestone inscriptions. Of course there is much duplication of information between the two sources, but that is also useful as corroboration. First, the burial records extend to 1999, while our gravestone information ends in 1987. Also, burial records contain much information that never appears on gravestones, for example, cause of death and name of next of kin. Finally, burial records furnish the only data about interments for which the grave has no marker. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dues Are Due January 1 Give your 2001 dues to Hal Norris or any other officer at the December meeting and free your conscience to enjoy the Holidays.
