==================================================================== LIVERMORE-AMADOR GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY E-BULLETIN FOR OCTOBER October 1, 2000 ==================================================================== A N N O U N C E M E N T S ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Meeting Reminder The Family Tree Maker Focus Group will meet on Thursday this week at the Sonoma School. Note that we are back to our regular meeting place! See below for more details. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- New CDs at LDS Family History Center A new set of compact disks has been acquired by the Mocho Street LDS Family History Center. It is the "Vital Records Index for Western Europe," covering Switzerland, Benelux, Germany, Italy and Spain. The new CDs were described in the keynote address given by Richard E. Turley, Jr. at the Federation of Genealogical Societies Annual Conference in Salt Lake City last month. Mr. Turley is managing director of the LDS Family and Church History Department. Part of his description follows: Today, we are pleased to announce the release of the Vital Records Index for Western Europe, which contains information from birth, christening, and marriage records from selected localities in Western European countries from the late 1500s to 1905. The Vital Records Index is not a complete collection of births, christenings, and marriages for any part of the world. Not all localities are represented, and coverage for any given area may not be complete. If your ancestors are found in the IGI, they will probably not be found in the Vital Records Indexes. It is useful to search both of these indexes to get more complete coverage of Western Europe. Mr. Turley's address to the FGS conference contains a number of other interesting announcements. The complete text (as mentioned in a previous L-AGS announcement) is at: http://www.lds.org/news/article/1,5422,116-1954,FF.html Hours for the Mocho Street FHC are on the Coming Events page of the L-AGS Web site at http://www.l-ags.org ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Computer Interest Group Any CIG member who intends to refer to or download the "brick walls" on our Web site is requested to do so soon. Which Svensens? The Sven Svensens. Which Sven Svensens? The Sven Svensen who married Olga Johnson. Which Olga Johnson? The one from Oslo. I know FIVE Olga Johnsons from Oslo! The one with blonde hair and blue eyes. (Hagar, exasperated, cross-eyed and sweating) Tying down genealogy in Norway is very time-consuming! -------------------------------------------------------------------------
