Traci is the Supervising Naturalist at the Black Diamond Mines located in the Regional Preserve at Antioch, CA. She graduated from Sacramento State with a degree in Recreation and Park Administration. In 1977 she started as an East Bay Park District intern. Later she became a naturalist and now is a supervisor. Traci heads the historical projects at the Regional Parks. She teaches workshops and interviews people from coal mining towns near Antioch. L-AGS member Anne Homan said that Traci had been quite helpful in locating information and photos of miners in the Black Diamond Mines. Anne plans to use many of these in her book about the Morgan Territory Road area. A portion of Traci's duties includes tracing the history of various lands (environmental interpretation) that have become Park District properties. In one example, information was gathered from former landowners of marshlands where white pelicans are found. Traci developed her skills with oral histories for this portion of her job requirement! For purposes of documentation she often uses an audio tape recorder with her interviews. This is not Traci's first appearance before our L-AGS group. In November 1998 she spoke before our L-AGS Study Group (chaired by Vicki Renz) and explained how she gathers oral histories for the Regional Park District. L-AGS member Kathleen Young indicated that Traci will have a new presentation about taking oral histories with a slant toward the genealogist."
