The Fair is going to be held on Friday, April 9th - 12:00 noon to 8:00 PM; and Saturday, April 10th - 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. This year the fair will be held at the Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton. The CGS Fair usually attracts about one thousand genealogists from Northern California and beyond, so it is a major genealogy event. We are planning to rent a booth at the Fair this year to display our wares and talk to prospective members. L-AGS members who volunteer to serve in the booth will probably qualify for discounts on the admission fee. If you would like to help out at the booth, please contact me at 925 XXX-XXXX or XXXX@tdl.com. Mark your calendar with these dates. Additional information about L-AGS participation will follow as it becomes available. General information about the Fair can be found at http://www.calgensoc.com/fhf.htm ------------------------------------------------------------------------- LIBRARY NEWS Jay Gilson, Library Chairman Would you like to learn how to repair books? Nancy Bering and Nancy Eby, volunteers at the Pleasanton Library, are skilled in that craft. They meet at the Library every Thursday morning from 10-12 a.m. to work on the backlog of book mending jobs needed by the Library. They have offered to teach L-AGS members who want to learn. Our members, in turn, would help keep our club's books in good shape. If you would like to join this activity, contact me at 925 XXX-XXXX or at XXXX@best.com. If you know of L-AGS members who would like to use our CDs at the Pleasanton Library, but who are not computer literate, please let me know. We will probably be able to find someone to tutor them at a mutually agreeable time. The Pleasanton Library hours are: Monday and Tuesday Noon to 9 pm Wednesday and Thursday 10 am to 9 pm Friday closed Saturday 10 am to 5 pm Sunday 1 pm to 5 pm A L-AGS docent is on duty at the library on Wednesdays from 10 am to 1 pm. Members who would like to serve as genealogy docents may contact Jay Gilson at 925 XXX-XXXX or at jXXXX@best.com. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- TIPS OF THE MONTH Shirley Siems Terry, Tipster shirley@tdl.com This month, Shirley tells us how to squeeze all of the available information from records at a county level. Did you know that the Salt Lake City FHL contains at least 103 printed genealogies known to be fraudulent? They are the work of a famous con artist, Gustave Anjou, 1863-1942. Shirley provides a link to a fascinating article about this charlatan. The article contains a list of surnames about which Anjou wrote books. Shirley would like to hear about your favorite tips! To reach "Tips of the Month" on our Web site, click on that title in the table on our home page at http://www.l-ags.org. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Livermore Family History Center The LDS Family History Center at 950 Mocho Street in Livermore is open at the following times: Monday 10 am to 3 pm Wednesday and Thursday 6 pm to 9 pm Saturday 1 pm to 4 pm L-AGS members who would like to serve as docents at the FHC may contact Jeanne Tanghe at 925 XXX-XXXX. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pleasanton Family History Center The new directors of the Pleasanton Family History Center are L-AGS members David and Lola Cummings.
