The P-2 classroom is a trailer located behind the main school building. It is best to park in the east parking lot, and walk around the back of the building to the classroom. You can go to the following URL to view a map showing the school and classroom location. http://www.l-ags.org/sonoma.html The reason for moving to this new site location is the availability of a computer projection system and easy access to a telephone line so we can connect to the Internet. We will discuss problems, solutions, and questions anyone has with Family Tree Maker. If you have some specific issue you would like dealt with, send me an email message describing the issue so we can be prepared at the meeting. For further information, call J'Nell Thompson at XXX-XXXX, or email me at XXXX@tdl.com. Non-members are welcome. She has agreed to become the official "tipster of the month" on the L-AGS Web site. Her column will appear monthly, offering helpful and interesting advice on all things genealogical.} (To reach "Tips of the Month" on our Web site, click on that title in the table on our home page at http://www.l-ags.org. For this month, the tips are duplicated in the Monthly E-Bulletin.) - - - - - 1. My first suggestion would be to subscribe to Dick Eastman's on-line newsletter which is sponsored by Ancestry. It is free and is always interesting. Once you subscribe, you receive it once a week via e-mail. There are always hyper-links to follow. Following are the topics covered in one recent issue: Vol. 3 No. 16 - April 18, 1998 - Subjects: - Ultimate Family Tree Premier - More On NARA Violation of Court Order - Call For Papers in Australia - Reading Early American Handwriting - Can You Help High School Students? - The Mending Wall - Douglas Mack To Head Broderbund's Family Tree Maker - World's Oldest Person Dies At 117 - Perpetual Calendars - Paul Newman's Ancestors - Home Pages Highlighted If you want to see the current issue as well as back issues of Dick Eastman's on-line newsletter, see 2. If there are articles from Eastman's newsletter you'd like to file or print off but don't want to print off the entire newsletter, use "Edit - copy & paste." I often copy and paste portions of his newsletter into an e-mail to myself. I use copy and paste a lot while surfing the net. It's my favorite thing about Windows 95. 3. I've set up about a dozen folders in Netscape for filing e-mails that I've answered including "Save for Reference" for those e-mails I send myself. I leave e-mails in the INBOX until I've taken care of them or if I want a reminder to follow-up later. 4. I receive several queries a week regarding my surnames on our L-AGS website. Having your surnames in such registries will let others find you. My suggestion on entering surnames on the Internet is to keep a record of the surname and when and where you registered. And only register those you really want to exchange data on. 5. If you have California history, look for your county on this page Once you select a document to search, use CTRL F-4 to search for your surname. 6. If you have North Central Iowa family, you'll want to check the obituaries (last few years) at It includes obituaries from the cities of Mason City, Clear Lake, Cresco and Decorah. There are also some births for Mason City, Iowa. 7. I received my free copy of the year-old "Family Chronicles" magazine last week after visiting their on-line version at . It's looks like a very good bi-monthly genealogical publication. They are reprinting most of the articles from their first year in book form which I plan to order. Please send your favorite sites or tips for this column to .
