Those who have not paid should do so promptly. ------------------------------------------------------------- New TV series on genealogy starts Sunday, January 5, 1997. The long-awaited TV series on PBS, entitled "Ancestors," will begin this coming Sunday. Three Bay Area stations will broadcast the programs at different times. The schedules for the first episode are: KQED Channel 9 Sunday, January 5, 10:30 am KTEH Channel 54 Saturday, January 18, 5:00 pm KCSM Channel 60 Saturday, January 25, 3:30 pm Duration of the series is 10 weekly episodes of 27 minutes each. The PBS description of the program is: "'Ancestors' is a television series about genealogy and family history. Powerful stories of people whose lives have been changed through family history research are followed by experts who give practical instruction on how viewers can begin searching for their own roots." The subjects of the ten installments are: Getting Started Look at Home Gathering Family Stories The Paper Trail Libraries and Archives Census and Military Records African American Research Your Medical Heritage High-Tech Help Leaving a Legacy A companion book, teacher's guide, viewer's guide and a video cassette are all available to supplement the broadcasts. She is a well-known local artist and author of the book, "Early Days in the Livermore-Amador Valley." A group leader provides a subject for each meeting and handouts are available. There is always an active question and answer session. By combining the many talents of our members we hope to help each other with our family research problems. For information call Jolene Abrahams at XXX-XXXX. ------------------------------------------------------------- Computer Interest Group Thursday, January 23, 1997 at 7:30 pm Computer Interest Group Program: Speakers from Global InfoNet, Inc. on "The Internet" Location: LDS Church, 950 Mocho Street, Livermore Global InfoNet is the Internet Service Provider on whose servers L-AGS has installed its new Web site. Representatives from Global will describe the various services offered by ISPs. Many genealogists are now creating their own Web sites, taking advantage of the disk space usually offered by ISPs as a part of the subscription price. What it takes to establish a personal Web site will be discussed. The material is the record of 358 burials from the Robert Graham Mortuary in Livermore from 1878-1893. The hours are: Monday and Tuesday Noon to 9 pm Wednesday and Thursday 10 am to 9 pm Friday closed Saturday 10 am to 5 pm Sunday 1 pm to 5 pm L-AGS docents are currently on duty at the library on Wednesdays from 10 am to 1 pm and from 6 pm to 9 pm.
