The Tri-Valley History Council

The Tri-Valley History Council is a network of local history centers, historic sites, libraries, museums and genealogical societies whose fields of interest include the eastern part of Alameda County and the southeastern part of Contra Costa County, California.

Our mission is to:

Encourage and assist the study and research of local history in the Tri-Valley region.
Support and advise members, local history groups, and societies.
Organize training and development classes.
Maintain a calendar of local events.
Advertise members' needs and interests.
Support communication between researchers and member organizations.
Encourage school history projects

A comprehensive description of historical sites and history-oriented organizations in the Tri-Valley is Tri-Valley Directory of Historical Resources and Places of Interest, created in 2011 for the Tri-Valley History Council by Terry Lee Berry.

An excellent guide to historical resources in our region is History Trail of the Tri-Valley and Vicinity. Created by Diana Carey and Don Meeker in 2005, this brochure describes 21 museums in southern Alameda and eastern Contra Costa Counties. The guide has not been updated recently, so current hours of operation and other specifics for History Council member organizations are best learned by viewing the Web sites listed above.

Some organizations in the History Council have significant holdings of recorded interviews with local residents. Indexes to these oral histories are presented here. All interviews listed have been approved for publicizing by the management of the respective organizations, and all have signed releases by the participants.
